Giant Heart Cookie | How To Make & Bake
I love finding simple desserts that can easily be made to celebrate a holiday or special occasion. This giant heart cookie is no exception. Taken from my popular, traditional chocolate cookie recipe, it would be a fun addition to a Valentine’s or birthday celebration!
They key to a giant heart cookie that’s pretty: not adding the m&m’s until after the cookie is formed into a heart. M&m’s break easily in the stand mixer. Broken chunks of candies that look murdered throughout the cookie don’t give off the same effect as perfectly circular bites of chocolate goodness in all the romantic colors.
Another tip? Shape the dough into a heart over a warm cookie sheet. I let mine preheat in the oven and when I’m ready to shape the dough, remove it, add parchment paper over the top, and spoon out the dough. You’ll be surprised how much easier it is to shape when you add in this quick and simple step.

Overall this cookie is quick, easy, and will be a delight to those who get to enjoy it! If you’re doing a Valentine’s mimosa bar (like this one) it would also be a perfect addition! Or, what a fun after school surprise for your kids!
Whatever the reason you choose to make these cookies, I hope they bring joy to you and the recipients!
Giant Heart Cookie
This is my traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe, switched up just a bit to make these large, colorful heart cookies perfect for a birthday, Valentine's, or Galentine's Day.
Ingredients
- INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup butter room temperature
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 2 1/4 cup white flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 bag Valentine's M&M
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350. Place Cookie sheet into oven to warm.
Place room temperature butter in the bowl of a stand mixer and mix. Slowly add brown and white sugar and mix on low speed until smooth.
Mix in egg and vanilla extract until combined.
On low speed, slowly add salt, baking soda, and flour, stopping often to scrape sides of bowl. Once dough is incorporated, set aside.
Remove cookie sheet from oven and set on a towel and cover with parchment paper. Taking half or 3/4 of the dough, depending on the size of the cookie you want, place on cookies sheet. The warm baking sheet will help shape the dough into a heart easier. Press down and form heart. For bottom, make heart rounded, not a sharp point because that will burn easily. Keep it as thick as the rest of the cookie, so it cooks evenly.
Once heart is shaped, sprinkle m&m's over the top and press into dough slightly.
Place in warm oven and bake for 12-14 minutes or until sides are golden brown. Remove from oven, and let cool fully before picking it up or it will break apart.
Make a smaller heart with remaining dough, or use it for regular sized cookies.
Enjoy!
