My Experience With Spokane Blinds
Our living room just got a huge upgrade, and I couldn’t be more excited and downright impressed. Who knew upgrading blinds could do so much for a space? Well . . . now I do! And I have Spokane Blinds to thank.
Alex, the owner of Spokane blinds has actually been in business locally for over 24 years. He started with an exterior home painting company he still operates to this day. Recently though, he decided to get into the blind business after seeing a need locally for quality blinds and installation in Spokane and the surrounding areas. Alex is a father of six, and you’ll often find his wife in their beautiful, new showroom. Their son Michael is the one that came to my home and helped me decide what worked best for our windows. A family-run business gets me every time. I simply love it.
But I digress.
Let’s talk about my old blinds and why we decided to get some new ones for our front room.
This post is in partnership with Spokane Blinds. All opinions are my own. See my full disclosure statement here.
Why new blinds?
Friends, if you know the story of our home then you know, it was built in 1993 and basically left as is until we purchased it four years ago. No updates. Just lots of wear as renters went in and out. Thus, the blinds were circa 1993. They were an off-white/yellowish/dust-built-up color that was a custom creation after almost 30 years of hanging.
Here’s a little comparison of new versus old.
I mean, just wow right? What a difference!
One had broken right after we moved in, but being new homeowners and broke, Travis worked some magic and got it back in place. And there they stayed, until last week.
Decisions Decisions
Maybe I’m just new to the blind game, but boy was I in for a surprise. Who knew how many options there were to choose from? Not I friends, not I.
Thankfully, Spokane Blinds offers a free in-home meeting to help you make all the decisions. Michael was so kind and patient as he shared with me everything that was available to choose from. Blinds can be lux. I was intrigued.
My main concerns was finding blinds that helped insulate us from the heat of summer and cold of winter. On chilly mornings you can feel the fridged air through the windows when you hold your hands up to them. Did you know up to 30% of a home’s heating and cooling energy can be lost through the windows? With our huge ones, I completely belive it!
Once we decided on the beautiful Duette Cellular Shades with insulation honeycomb design, the really hard part was next. Picking the color! With over 200 to choose from, you can basically get your hearts desire.
I decided to go with a bluish-gray to complement the wall, and it’s just perfect!
Not ready for a home meeting yet but still curious? You’re in luck! Spokane Blinds just opened up a huge showroom to help you visually see and touch all the options. Stop by and check out everything that’s available!
Hunter Douglas Blinds
One of the really neat things that set Spokane Blinds apart from the others out there, is that they’re a Hunter Douglas Showcase Dealer, which means they have exclusive fabrics and textures not available to just any retailer. And Hunger Douglas is the best of the best when it comes to window coverings. Their quality is undisputed in the industry.
Installation
The installation process for the blinds was so easy! Alex came over at our scheduled time, installed them in under two hours, and was cleaned up and gone before I knew it.
Power View Blinds for the win
This is one of the coolest parts about the blinds and what Travis and Tyrion keep geeking out over. They’re Power View! This means you can close, half-open, top open, and bottom open! The options are endless with these blinds. I’m finding I love to open them halfway, top-down in the mornings so I can peek out and let the morning warmth in, yet still enjoy privacy from all my neighbors out on their morning walks. In the afternoons I top-lower them to prevent the glaring sun from causing blindness. (Overexaggeration? Maybe.)
We all know that moment when you’re quietly enjoying a good book and the sun moves ever so slightly, and suddenly you’re blinded by a ray of sun that’s basically laser-focused directly into your eyes. That’s a hard no for me friends. Nothing gives me instant rage like the sun in my eyes.
Rant over.
For an idea of what Power View means, check out some of the combos I’m able to do below!
How cool right? This means there is no moment in time throughout the day when we can’t fully enjoy our living room. And I love that!
It’s all controlled by this little remote called . . . are you ready? The nugget. I just can’t. How cute is that? And please, when I say good aesthetics speak to my soul, I’m not joking. This little remote is sleek and classy.
Battery Operated
When I was told these were battery operated, I was so excited! But, being very novice in the inner workings of blinds, I assumed they required AA batteries or something. Nope. Wrong!
Each blind has a little power strip that’s behind it, against the window side, completely hidden. How often do you have to recharge it? Oh, just once a year on average.
They seriously thought of everything when making these. The attention to detail is basically epic.
The battery is magnetized to the blind, so you just pull off, attach it to the power strip to recharge, and then insert it back into the blind. It only takes a couple of hours to charge too.
Warranty
Spokane Blinds is ready to stand behind everything they install. The blinds come with a lifetime warranty on the material, and a five-year warranty on all motorized parts. This relieves the worry most of us get when purchasing items that have a motor or battery involved.
