While summer is typically for vacations, lake days, tan lines and s’mores, this year I don’t know if any of us will get to do as much of those things as we’d like. #coronasucks But, if we have to stay home, might as well update your home exterior right?

If this time has taught me anything, it’s that making my home a haven is one of the most important things I can do. Spending so much time in these four walls I want to feel happy and surrounded by goodness and things I love. I want to bake it a kitchen that brings me life, to snuggle in a chair and read a book as comfy as can be, and I want to step out my back deck or front porch and see flowers in the color pallet I chose blooming happily as I sit in a comfy swing, sipping a glass of sweet tea.

Yes, that is super important to me.

And I’m sure to you too!

Which is why I thought I’d throw together a list of 5 easy ways to update your home this summer.

There are simply some projects that pack more wow factor than others.

Truth right?

Well sit back and take notes as I share the top projects you should do to your house this summer 2020 that will make staying home a little more tolerable. But then, I’m a homebody anyhow.

1. Outdoor string lights

Oh man, string lights are always a win. They add that whimsical touch to evening BBQ’s and nighttime gatherings that just make everyone want to stay for a while. You can dance under them, sit and have a deep discussion under them while the crickets sing, and you can drift off to dreamland below them rocking on your favorite swing.

String lights are a must to level up any home. We have them in the front and back of our house, and we couldn’t love them more.

2. Painting Trim

Does your house need a little refresh? Painting trim is an easy, cost effective way to completely change a space.

Just make sure you purchase a high quality exterior paint. We used Behr and love how it turned out. From a dated hunter green to a crisp black, we love what it did to our house!

(And yes, we will be painting that front door soon!)

3. Turn an outdated garden bed into a extended entertaining area

We had those popular 90’s rose beds by our front door. They were old, hadn’t been taken care of in years, and needed to go. Since we spend so much time working to make a backyard vegetable garden area which I spend a lot of time in, I wanted to keep the front of our house easy to maintain.

So we did this:

5. Add a WATER-FEATURE

There’s something about the babbling of water that soothes the soul and creates a relaxed atmosphere.

We have a pond and river in the backyard (it came with the house) and friends, although we love it , it’s a lOT of work. Instead of taking on an expensive project like that which requires constant maintenance, instead go with a smaller water feature.
