Making scones is an extremely easy task that takes minimal ingredients and little time. In 30 minute, you can enjoy your own warm, perfect scone with a fresh cup of coffee in the comfort of your own home.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and sugar until evenly combined.
Take a cube of very cold butter from the freezer and, using a sharp knife, carefully slice thin shavings directly into the dry ingredients. As you slice, the butter will fall into small pieces. Toss gently with a fork to coat the butter in flour.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Pour this mixture over the flour and butter. Add any remaining ingredients on top. Stir gently until the dough becomes thick and difficult to mix.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured counter and knead just until it comes together. Do not overwork it.
Place the dough onto a sheet of parchment paper and shape it into a round disc about 1 inch thick. Using a sharp knife or bench scraper, cut the round in half, then cut each half in half again, and once more until you have 8 wedges.
Separate the wedges so there is about 1 inch of space between each piece for even baking.
Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges.
