Cherry Sauce

This simple cherry sauce is similar to pie filling. Use it to top ice cream for a summer dessert, turn it into a cherry crisp, or eat it as is for a fresh in season treat. The options are endless for this yummy dessert.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds pitted cherries
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions
 

  • Place pitted cherries in a saucepan with water and sugar. Stir until a rolling boil.
  • Once boiling, mash cherries with the back of a spoon.
  • Mix lemon juice with cornstarch in small cup or bowl. Pour into cherries and stir until begins to thicken.
  • Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  • Let cool and use immediately or store in container.
  • Refrigerate for up to a week.
