Eco Friendly Picnic and DIY with IGLOO
Guys, aren’t there times we just feel the need to shake things up a bit? The days seem to run together a lot lately. And I don’t know about your family, but when that happens my crew gets cranky. Heck, I get cranky. So, we decided to take a day and have a picnic with IGLOO! It was a fun way to break up the monotony of late, and the kids were so excited! We even got to do a craft after!
First step to a great picnic: packing a yummy lunch with lots of goodies! And what better option to pack all those goodies into than IGLOO’s new RECOOL cooler! It’s the first cooler ever made with all biodegradable materials.
This cooler makes me happy for a couple reasons. First, it’s a great option because it’s environmentally friendly. You can use it, reuse it, and then when you’re done, recycle the RECOOL. Or better yet, get creative with it like my kids did!
Disclosure: this post is in partnership with IGLOO, all opinions are my own.
Before we go any further, let me just get this out of the way: The “squeak” noise from traditional disposable foam coolers makes my hair stand on end. I can’t handle it! Who else has a styrofoam pet peeve? Okay good, glad I’m not alone.
Other impressive facts about the RECOOL cooler: it holds up to 75 pounds, can keep ice frozen for up to 12 hours, and holds water for five days! Those are some darn impressive stats if I do say so. Plus the $9.99 price point isn’t bad either.
Picnic Prep
I wanted this to basically be “the kids” picnic. This meant they helped with the prep, set up, and clean up. Can this be considered part of homeschooling? Home Ec with a side of botany since it was a forest picnic maybe? 😉
After packing lunch, which included our favorite cookies for dessert, we headed off to the woods. The kids were so excited and I got to thinking, I’m pretty sure this was our very first non-beach picnic? We’ll have to do it more often!
We scouted out some soft grass, laid down our blanket and dug in!
It was the perfect sun-shiny day with just a bit of a breeze. The kids had such a fun time. What is it about eating on a blanket that makes life seem just a tad sweeter?
After an hour or so of chatting, eating, and playing we packed up and headed home. When I told the kids they could make something from the IGLOO cooler, they instantly said the same thing: a little garden!
I have been gardening so much lately that when said they wanted to make a small garden “Just like yours mom!” my heart about exploded. I was all too happy to oblige.
This was such a fun few hours of memories made with my babies.
Craft time with IGLOO RECOOL
We got home, unpacked the leftovers, and set up a little paint station on the back patio.
The kids promptly got to work making their masterpiece!
Wait! We can add “art” to our homeschool picnic trip too? #winningatmomlife
Seeing their little faces filled with pride because they planted their own mini garden was the best part about the whole day.
Who knew a little picnic could turn into such a fun, memory filled event? What other cooler besides the RECOOL could give you that? I can’t think of one!
Can’t wait to include the IGLOO RECOOL on all our family adventures this summer!
