I’ve always cherished a love for reading. It’s my happy place, one where I go to escape, learn, grow, and relax. I’ve found a few extra special books that stand out in the over 30+ I’ve read the past few years.
My opinion of the books listed are 100% my own. My recommendations are based on reading and implementing the information I gleaned from these books. I would never recommend something I don’t believe in, or have never used. This post contains affiliate links. For more information, see my disclosures here.
Health and Fitness
Ready to try a new approach with food? This is it. I’m all about organic, whole, minimally processed, and this, this is Eryn approved. (If that matters to anyone! :p ) Think you might have food allergies/issues? (Newsflash – most of us do) Breakouts? Inflammation in the body? Aches and joint pain? These can all be signs of food allergies. This book and the one below are very similar. It Starts With Food goes more into the science behind why Melissa and Dallas Hartwig decided to develop this whole foods approach to eating, while the book below has more recipes and tips, and a little less of the science behind it all. Either book you choose will change your outlook on food.
See above description
This book was such an eye opener for me on how your body and muscles respond to cardio and weights. It also covered the emotional side of weight loss, motivation, proper form and for this “I need to know how it works” geek it was perfect. I loved the science he put into it but also how frank he was and understandable. This is a must read for any cardio junky as well as anyone who really wants to start seeing muscle definition. (See my post about the chapter on motivation here)
Personal Growth Books
This is truly one of my favorite books. It’s pages are marked up with colorful highlighters and there are lots of dog tags throughout. I’ve read it several times, and still glean important info each re-read. I couldn’t explain it better than Amazon does:
The Slight Edge is a way of thinking, a way of processing information that enables you to make the daily choices that will lead you to the success and happiness you desire. Learn why some people make dream after dream come true, while others just continue dreaming and spend their lives building dreams for someone else. It’s not just another self-help motivation tool of methods you must learn in order to travel the path to success. It shows you how to create powerful results from the simple daily activities of your life, by using tools that are already within you.
This book is going to make you so productive! If you’re willing to implement what you learn, life could be drastically different 12 weeks from right now. It challenges you to start viewing goals in 12 week chunks instead of annually. This gives you so much more potential to complete and surpass goals. Another of my favorites that I continuously refer back to. It’s forever altered my way of thinking.
